The work presents a view from the window of my apartment, photographed during the pandemic lockdown. Although I was able to step out into the garden, the lockdown nevertheless carried with it a sense of isolation, which I sought to capture in the photographs. The apartment windows overlook trees growing in the garden but the view is now historical, to a large extent. Firstly, I have since moved out, and secondly, the trees were heavily pruned. During the pandemic they were my companions, and their life – a source of fascination and wonder. By dedicating this series to Josef Sudek, I wish to recall his collection of photographs taken from the window of his Prague studio. As in Sudek’s work, these photographs were meant to articulate my own uncertain relationship with the outside world.
